A friend of mine asked me upon showing this to him, what I was thinking when I took the picture. I'm not used to being asked what I think about what I'm looking at, so I said something mundane about the tangle of branches and their shadows. I was really thinking more about how I could fool myself into thinking that there's something mysterious in the darkness at the end of the path. I was also thinking that there doesn't actually seem to be an end to it, making the path more alluring. In reality, though I hadn't seen it yet, I knew that there was just going to be a street, with cars, and people, and gray.
